Berry Lookup

Update: the function of BerryLookup has been incorporated into Beyond411, which I recommend using instead. (Simply type rphone:425-555-1212)

Berry Lookup is a simple reverse phone directory application for the RIM Blackberry. It allows you to look up someone’s name and address given their phone number.

For over the air download, point your Blackberry at http://thebogles.com/lookup/BerryLookup.jad

For application loader install, download BerryLookup.zip.

I downloaded your app onto my 7520 and it worked well the very first but never since then. My unit gives me an HTTP error 406. I have other frineds with the same app and theirs work perfectly. Could you help me out with this?

Easy way to fix this is to un-install the application, and re-install. To do this go to your options icon, then to applications, scroll to the application that you would like to remove, and depress the thumbwheel -> choose the “delete” option and when the dialog box that says “Delete the following application(s)? ” pops up scroll up and choose delete. Allow the Blackberry to finish with this process and re-download the application to your handset. It should work fine now. If not, re-configure your internet browser settings via options -> Browser Configuration. Make sure you enable scripts, and allow the Blackberry to emulate Internet Explorer.
Good Luck!

I am about to switch from a Treo to a BB and have been looking around for replacements for apps I currently use. I’m not sure if this can be of help to you in developing your application, but Rick Whitt has a very similar program to your Berry411 called Directory Assistance:

Keep up the great work! BTW, why not integrate Berry Lookup into Berry411?

I don’t keep the “phone” api module on my BlackBerry because I don’t use it as a phone. But Berry 411 doesn’t work without it. Any way around that?

Phil:

I love berry411 - every blackberry uesr I know uses it now. I just installed berrylookup - something I’ve been doing manually with google. Is there a way you could hook into the system menus so that in a phone number context, it would have the option to launch lookup with the currently selected number?

keep up the awesome work! - Tony

Having a slight problem; I just installed berrylookup and when I query a # I just get a blank white page…No errors. Anyone have an idea why? I have a 7130 and attempted IAN steps to fix Michael Fields issue.

Thanks in advance for your help,

-Tiedo

If you have problems go into browser settings and enable everything except javascript popups. Also clear your cache.

I just downloaded Berry411 and BerryLookup on my Curve 8310. When trying to use Lookup I get the following error: Uncaught exception: net.rim.device.api.system.ControlledAccessException and then the program closes. Any suggestions?

Maria, I too started receiving that message after i upgraded my OS to 4.2.2.176. I am going to try it using the Desktop Manager and will post my findings.

To no avail. This method of installation did not work either. I’ll email the devel.
