Mark Pilgrim: The Future of Reading
Be sure to read The Future of Reading (A Play in Six Acts).
If you think that DRM for books is no more scary than DRM for music and movies, this persuasively chosen selection of old and new quotes from Jeff Bezos, George Orwell, Newsweek, and Richard Stallman might change your mind.

I agree it’s scary & infuriating. I love books & I’m a literacy volunteer. Yay to anyone who can find a way to circumvent this control.
Take a look at Newsweek Nov 26, The Future of Reading, Steven Levy. He also mentions readers being able to add comments and relevent URLs, etc to the book, so that the book would become a discussion between readers and possibly the author, and an encyclopedia of relevent (or not, or untrue) data. I think the article was meant to be more upbeat than the link you gave, but it’s horrifying to me.
