Version 3.0 of Berry 411 has shipped

A new version of the Berry411 mobile search tool is now available for beta testing for general use (Update: Version 3.05 was released on 5/17/2006.)

The main new feature of this version is integration with the Blackberry address book application. A new menu item in the address book allows you get driving directions or do a reverse phone lookup for any contact. You can also set your current Berry411 location based on an address in your address book. Address book integration works on all phones except the 8700.

I am also hoping that this version will eliminate This version eliminates the incompatibilities that AskMeNow and 8700c users have reported; though I have not been able to test this yet.

Berry 411 version 3.0 requires version 4.0 or later of the Blackberry OS. (If you have a recent phone, you’re probably running this already.)

To give version 3.0 a try, point your Blackberry browser at http://thebogles.com/berry411.jad, or click here and enter your email address to send yourself an install link.

Works great so far. I like the phone book integration.

Version 3.0 is great! I do have one bug to report.

When seeking driving directions from the address book, if there is more than 1 address listed for a contact, such as work and home, then it pulls in work and home into the search field and does not locate the address.

Thank you for all that you have done!

What is your phone and OS version?

Thanks…

Sorry for missing this information.

Blackberry 8700c
4.1 OS

Is it possible to also integrate the RPhone feature into the Call Log?

This really is great software.

Thank you!

I’m using a Cingular 8700C with enterprise server. The device has three browser options - internet browser, cingular browser, and blackberry browser. The only browser that seems to work correctly is the Cingular browser, but when I try to use berry411, it jumps to the BB browser, and crashes. Any idea what’s causing this? Is there a way I can have berry411 “point” to Cingular’s browser?

It worked fine on the 7100G phone, so was really looking forward to using this awesome software again.

Great app!
Having a problem with it on my 8700r (4.1.0.284), when I launch the program, I get the error: Uncaught exception: java.lang.ClassCastException

Might just be a problem with my Java or OS, it was happening with 4.1.0.206 too, and obviously i’ve reflashed since then, so it seems to be a bug.

Keep up the good work!

I have tried the people search with the white pages and only get the first entry and no options for paging forward, is this an issue with the the search? All the other options seem to work great and scroll down to complete the pages.

Thanks,
Carl

Please try Beta 3.01 published 4/22 and available at the same location; this has additional error handling code which I believe will prevent the class cast exception you saw.

Philbo,

Is there any way for you to post the cod and alx files for the beta? I am trying to have a larger group test this out and it would be easlier if I could push it out on the BES instead of individual activations. The program is amazing!

Thanks,

Tony

Can you provide a link to download the Application Loader version of Berry411 beta so I test among a small group of my 8700 users?

Thanks
Fred

Philbo, I loaded the 3.01 from your beta site. It works like the previous version. For instance search white pages for jowers using cordova, tn as search locations, only 1 of 3 is displayed.

Thanks,
wizard

Got the beta to work on my 8700c but have one issue. When I do a white page search I get the frist page of what says “results 1-10″ but can not move past this. When I do the yellow pages I get the expected list of results one below the other.

The white pages bug is fixed now.

I have installed the Beta version of Berry411 last night on 8700c Cingular OS 4.1, everything works well EXCEPT for the Address Book Integration. There is no new menu item for this integration. Please advise why.

Thanks!

Good news– everyone I’ve asked reports that the latest build (3.02, released 3/30) resolves the startup exceptions.

It’s a known limitation that the address book integration doesn’t work on the 8700; must be some difference in the way the phone OS works.

[…] You can install the new build by following the instructions on the Berry411 beta page. (Developer’s note: the surprising thing that seems to be at the root of the problem is that other applications (e.g. AskMeNow) can stomp on objects persisted by Berry411. My reading of the documentation suggests that this shouldn’t be possible, but nonetheless it seems to happen. The application now handles this condition gracefully.) […]

I also do not see the address book integration in the 7250. I still also get the java exception error.

I should repeat there that the white pages issues some folks saw were fixed a little while ago.

I have released an new version of the beta intended to fix the address book integration issue on the 8700; please verify if you have an 8700.

If you see an exception, please press ALG-lglg and report back to me the items in the log that you see.

Since I have gone to 3.02 and 3.03 my addresses that I input disappear periodically and I have to reenter them. I have a 7520 Nextel.

I am using 3.03 on a Nextel 7520. Lately my Addresses (Home, work and other)and the plugins keep disapearing. Any suggestions? I am also, running Ask Me Now 3.15, Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger.

I believe that Berry411 and AskMeNow are stomping on each other’s saved settings. This isn’t supposed to be possible but may be a bug in the 7520.

I may have to try saving to a different ID and hope that no other application uses that ID.

By the way, are there any 8700 users who can verify whether the address book integration in 3.03 works for them?

Verified on 8700g, 3.03 and 3.04

Would appreciate additional choice of “Map this” and “Map this on Google Maps App (if installed)

wokrs perfect on my 8700c model!

THANK YOU

Doesn’t work for me (7290). I have even unistalled everything else first and wiped. I just want version 2.6 back. Should have never tried to upgrade.I also lose my ability to trx and rx, until I pull the batt.

Version 2.62 is still available here:

http://www.blackberrytoday.com/software/rim1/Berry-411-2004-8-23-rim-rim1.html

I want to buy the new version of the blackberry. I have been a customer of nextel for about 4 years.I now have a 7520 and have liked it. I would have a treo but I have a company and have about 40 phones. Is there any thing that is about to come out that has some new features and smaller. I tried the smaller one but didn’t like the typing of email returns. Thank you, Bill Korum
